Among all the events regular to the FMU community, Food Truck Thursdays are some of the most popular, with the most recent Food Truck Thursday occurring on the Smith University Center (UC) lawn on Jan. 25.
Every month, Student Life invites a couple of food trucks to park on the UC lawn during usual lunch hours to provide the FMU community with their food. These dishes range from anything between cultural staples and new takes on certain things such as fair foods.
Food trucks can provide a particularly unique and creative eating experience as some of the items served are often not things you can find anywhere else. It also gives students a reason to sit and talk around the picnic tables and enjoy a good meal in the middle of their day.
For this month’s Food Truck Thursday, three trucks came out: Traveling Tom’s Coffee Truck, serving various coffee drinks; Sea Soul Medley, serving a variety of seafood dishes; and George’s Funnel Cakes, serving sweeter dessert dishes for students. Students across campus came out to enjoy these offerings and further the sense of community at FMU.
Food trucks are often staples of these environments. Places such as fairs and concerts are usually abundant with them, but so are these more casual spaces such as street corners and universities. FMU does not only host them on Food Truck Thursdays but also during other outdoor events such as the annual First Friday and last semester’s FM A’Glow events.
The usual number of food trucks present on Food Truck Thursdays is three or four, but with a monthly rotation of trucks, there is always going to be something for everyone. As the weather warms up with the progression of the semester, more summer-themed trucks will be present serving dishes such as snow cones and ice cream.
For more information regarding Food Truck Thursdays, students can visit the Student Life office in the UC or view future dates on the event calendar on the official FMU website.
