Hannah Lynn Fuson, freshman general business major, had many reasons why she chose FMU to continue her education. She attributes the decision to her classes and professors, as well as the new friends she has made during her time at FMU thus far.
“I decided to come to FMU because it was my most affordable option,” Fuson said. “I am so happy with my decision to come to FMU as I have made so many new friends and my classes and professors have been great. One of my favorite things is my job in the business office. I love interacting with my coworkers and professors and learning new things every day.”
Fuson’s favorite organization on campus is the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) because she feels it is a great way to connect with other students who hold similar Christian values.
“I love [being] able to connect with like-minded Christians as I live out my faith in college and make friends who have similar values,” Fuson said.
Moving to college from high school is always tough, but for Fuson, having an on-campus job and joining a student organization has allowed her to meet new people, which has helped in her transition to college.
“The hardest part was the transition of making new friends and adjusting to the atmosphere around me,” Fuson said. “Thankfully, through being a part of BCM and working in the business office, I have met many people and made great friends, making my transition much easier.”
Time management is something all students need to be mindful of, but it can be especially hard for incoming freshmen. Fuson believes staying on top of her schoolwork has helped her combat this common problem.
“Time management has been super important to me as I work two jobs and stay on top of my schoolwork,” Fuson said. “The best strategy for me is writing out my week in my planner to give myself an idea of what every day will look like and making to-do lists to ensure I don’t miss anything.”
Fuson has one role model in her life: her father. She hopes to one day be the leader that he has been.
“My dad has been a huge role model in my life,” Fuson said. “Recently, I have watched him transition into a new job in a position he has never been in before and intentionally learn to lead people well, as he cares so much for the staff he manages. This has inspired me as I strive to be a leader to the people around me and in my future career.”
Fuson’s favorite place on campus to do schoolwork is the breezeway located between Founders Hall and the Cauthen Educational Media Center.
“I love sitting in the breezeway on a nice day,” Fuson said. “It is such a great place to get work done between classes and see friends passing through.”
Coming into college from high school is always scary. Fuson, having just been in this position, has advice for high schoolers who are nervous about choosing a school to transition into. Fuson doesn’t want local high school students to be discouraged by FMU just because it is local.
“The advice I would give to high school students looking at where they are going to college, especially local students like me, is that the college experience is what you make it,” Fuson said. “Don’t be afraid to come to FMU because it’s close because if you involve yourself in things and make an effort, you will be able to make awesome friends and have fun.”
