Residents gathered at the Florence Veterans Park for the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, as well as to dedicate the new monument honoring the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Sculptor Alex Palkovich created the monument, focusing on an actual piece of the Pentagon recovered from the site and supported by scale steel versions of the Twin Towers. The steel is the same type used to construct the actual Towers themselves.

However, it was after the ceremony that Palkovich showed a group of viewers a special feature of the monument, that of the shadow it leaves as the sun rises and sets.

The Veterans Park is located beside the Florence Civic Center on Woody Jones Blvd.
