The FMU Performing Arts Center (PAC) will be the location of the Greater Habitat of Humanity’s “Raise the Roof” fundraising event on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The annual fundraiser will be held outdoors at the PAC’s BB&T Amphitheater. Tickets for the event cost $50 and include live musical entertainment, refreshments and an open bar.
Jessica Brown, an employee of the Greater Habitat for Humanity, said the organization is looking forward to holding their fourth “Raise the Roof” event at the PAC.
“The Performing Arts Center is a beautiful venue and a true asset to Florence,” Brown said. “Because our event is casual and relaxed, we prefer an outdoor setting. The BB&T Amphitheater is perfect for us.”
Brown said the Greater Habitat for Humanity started “Raise the Roof” four years ago because they wanted to hold an event to raise funds for more housing projects, but hold an event that was different than any other in the area.
For entertainment at each “Raise the Roof” event, The Greater Habitat for Humanity selects a musical artist to perform for the attendees of the event. This year, the musical guests will be Ken Block and Drew Copeland of the alternative rock band, Sister Hazel. Previous musical guests included Blues Traveler, Marshall Tucker Band and Edwin McCain.
Last year, the event had over 750 people in attendance. The Greater Habitat for Humanity expects the turnout for this year’s “Raise the Roof” event to be around 500 people.
The proceeds from the ticket sales from this year’s event will be added to the fund for the new Habitat Community. The Habitat Community will be a neighborhood of at least 20 houses all built by the Greater Habitat for Humanity for families in need. The organization hopes to begin construction on the neighborhood in the summer of 2013.
