In participation of the fall 2012 Career Fair, local, state and regional businesses will be on showcase at the Smith University Center (UC) on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Hosted by the FMU Office of Career Development, the Career Fair is an opportunity for students and alumni to meet with and to network with potential employers, whether for a job or for an internship.
Dr. Ron Miller Jr., director of career development, noted how the fair serves as a way for students to prepare themselves for entering the professional world.
“It’s good practice even if students don’t get a job on this day,” Miller said. “It’s a good experience in how to make contact with an employer.”
Some of the businesses projected to attend are 5Linx, ADP, Inc., Fastenal, Modern Woodmen of America and Waffle House. Numerous school districts, including Florence School Districts Two and Three, Chesterfield County Schools, Lee County Schools, Williamsburg Schools and Richland School District Two will be present.
Several banking institutions including Coldwell Banker, First Federal and the SAFE Federal Credit Union will be in attendance. Government entities such as the City of Florence and the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as graduate schools like Coastal Carolina University and the Sherman College of Chiropractic, are also expected to make an appearance.
According to Miller, attendees should bring a polished, professional resume, a writing instrument and notepad and a business card or written contact information.
Concerning the dress code, Miller added that males should wear a business suit and females should wear professional business attire, and if worn, understated jewelry.
