Student Life, in cooperation with the Campus Activities Board (CAB), hosted their “After Class: Tie-Dye Bash” this Monday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event was held on the Smith University Center (UC) front lawn, engaging about 30 attendees.
Under red tents, Angel Crutchfield, a junior biology major, and Azayva Wright, a junior elementary education major, handed out supplies. The supplies given included gloves, bags, rubber bands, and, of course, the dye for the T-shirts themselves. The attendees participating in the tie-dye event were advised to bring their own white shirt ahead of time. Unfortunately, those staffed at the event did not have tees available for unknowing students.
Eight blue tarps were spread out on the lawn to keep things from getting too messy. The atmosphere was relaxed as golden hour produced a warm glow over FMU’s campus. Students mingled with friends and socialized as they colored T-shirts in patterns ranging from purple to pink to green.
Dominik Khilji, student life specialist for student engagement, walked around and helped students tie their rubber bands properly to produce the desired dye pattern. Khilji was also noted saying how he viewed the event.
“It’s a very creative thing,” said Khilji.
Mainstream music was also featured in the event, with famous songs including “Wide Awake” by Katy Perry and “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne being played for students.
However, the most noteworthy appearance of the evening was Clementine, The Patriot editor-in-chief’s rescue and emotional support animal, who is a 2- to 3-year-old beagle. She made the event even more exciting with her endless energy and affection.
At the end of the day, students found that the event proved successful and was a delightful way for everyone to unwind after a long day of classes. For more information on CAB events such as this, contact Dominik Khilji via email at dominik.khilji@fmarion.edu or visit FMU’s event calendar.
