On Thursday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., Student Life will host Carve n’ Chill to celebrate Halloween. The event will take place at the FAC Breezeway and is open to all Francis Marion University students.
The practice of pumpkin carving began in ancient Celtic traditions in Ireland and Scotland. People would carve scary faces into turnips to ward off evil spirits. This evolved into carving pumpkins because they are larger and easier to carve. Today, the modern Halloween jack-o’-lantern is a spooky symbol that has become a creative and fun pastime for all ages. Limited spots are available, so Patriots should reserve theirs as soon as possible. To register, visit FMU Campus Activities Board on Instagram. From there, students are to enter their FMU email address.
“For this event, we have a limited number of pumpkins, so please on this form provide your name and student ID number so we can reserve you a pumpkin. Make sure to bring your student ID so we can make sure it’s you!” said the Student Life Department on their Google Form.
Once students have filled out the Google Form, they should receive an email confirming the details.
The event promises to be lively and entertaining, offering students the chance to socialize, de-stress and embrace a seasonal tradition. Exam season is exhausting, so students are advised to take this opportunity to bring your friends, make new ones and have a great time.
