The band is back together this holiday season with Universal Studios’ “Trolls Band Together” starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. The third movie in the “Trolls” franchise, “Trolls Band Together,” is a lighthearted family road trip movie similar to the previous two entries, “Trolls” and “Trolls World Tour.”
Released on Nov. 17, 2023, the film follows the previous films’ protagonists Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) and Branch (voiced by Justin Timberlake) as they set out to find Branch’s long-lost brothers whom he used to sing with in a band called Brozone.
During a wedding between the characters Bridget and King Gristle, the celebration comes to a halt when a new troll enters. The new troll, John Dory (voiced by Eric Andre), reveals himself as Branch’s long-lost brother and says he has come with bad news about their other brother, Floyd (voiced by Troye Sivan).
Floyd has been captured by evil twin mega stars, Velvet (voiced by Amy Schumer) and Veneer (voiced by Andrew Rannells), who have been using Floyd to drain his talent. They quickly find out the only way to free Floyd from his diamond perfume prison is by having the perfect family harmony, which requires the trio to find the other lost brothers, Spruce (voiced by Daveed Diggs) and Clay (voiced by Kid Cudi).
Together as Brozone, the brothers never achieved the perfect family harmony and that caused them to part ways. Having to band together to save his brother forces Branch to deal with his unresolved family issues on the trip and find inner peace.
Tiny Diamond (voiced by Kenan Thompson) also joins the team on a mission of his own to prove that he is a grown adult, regardless of only being a month old. Camilla Cabello joins the cast as Viva, Poppy’s long-lost sister, who has issues trusting everyone due to her childhood trauma of being left behind in the opening of the first movie.
With humor for both kids and adults, “Trolls Band Together,” can be enjoyed by anybody regardless of age. Some jokes may not make sense with the younger audience but the older audience is sure to enjoy jokes such as Branch and the ring sucker.
New songs have been added to the “Trolls” franchise as well with songs “Better Place” and “Perfect,” the former being the first NSYNC song in 20 years. These two new songs are catchy and perfect additions to your playlists for a jam session this holiday. The pop culture references also are not to be missed.
With Velvet and Veneer singing “Sweet Dreams,” it’s a great tie into actual music and how the two characters cannot produce their original music. With Veneer feeling bad about hurting Floyd, the end of the movie comes with the twin mega stars finally going
to jail and Brozone getting back together to sing the perfect family harmony. It’s a happy and heartwarming family reunion at the end. “Trolls Band Together” is a lovely movie to be enjoyed by all families that can be watched in theaters for a select time.
