Lady Pats clip Falcons’ wings

The Francis Marion Women’s Basketball team scored another home win against the University of Montevallo Falcons on, Saturday January 18.

The Patriots beat the Falcons 67-65 in the final seconds in the game on the 18th, bringing the Patriots record to 10-4 overall.

The win against Montevallo brought the lady Patriots to the top of the East Division of the Peach Belt Conference with a 5-3 record.

Key players for the Falcons were Taylor Beverly, starting forward, who scored 28 points and led the team in rebounds with 9 overall followed by Katie Colson, starting forward, who had 8 rebounds.

Chelsea Dukes, junior guard, led the Patriots in points, with a career high of 16, followed by Kim Roach, senior starting forward, who added 14 points. Camille Dash led the team in rebounds.

At the start of the game, the Falcons took the lead over the Patriots with two 3-pointers madeby Jacquelyn Thompson, starting guard.

It was not until 2.5 minutes into the game that the Patriots scored. Dee Gray, senior starting forward, made a layup that put the Patriots on the board.

The Falcons kept the lead until the final 4 minutes of the first half.

At the end of the first half, the score was 31-25 in favor of the Lady Patriots.

The second half showed the Lady Patriots in good light. The Patriots kept the lead up until the final 3 minutes of the game.

It was the Falcons’ Kaolin Foreman with a layup that tied the game with 3:20 minutes left in the game.

Yet another layup by Foreman 40seconds later put the Falcons in the lead.

The score would continue to rise, and with a jumper by Gray, brought the Patriots back in the lead with 38 seconds left in the game.

With a few more shots by both teams the game ended with the Patriots on top. The final score was 67-65.

The Lady Patriots had another game on the 20th against Clayton State in which they lost 71-68. Their next game will be on the 25th where they will take on USC Aiken at home.

After that, there will be 2 away games at UNC Pembroke on the 30th and then at Flagler on the February 1st.
