Francis Marion University’s department of political science and geography have announced several upcoming events and deadlines for the rest of October that are important to students who may be interested.
Applications for FMU’s Model UN course (HNRS 350) taking place in spring of 2026, are due Wednesday, Oct. 15. The course is said to include a trip to New York City, where students learn about global issues and international decision-making while simulating the experience for themselves. “All FMU students are eligible to apply, but the application process is competitive,” said Lemke in October’s newsletter.
Karen Reagan Britton, vice dean for admissions and career and professional development at the University of South Carolina’s Rice School of Law, will visit FMU this Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place in Room 250A of Founders Hall, where Britton will discuss the law school’s application and acceptance process.
Melina Much, a 2018 Francis Marion University graduate who earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, will visit the School of Business and Education (SOBE) on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 2:15 p.m. to present her research, “Did Podcasts Help Trump Win Young Men? The Power of Podcasting and YouTube.” The presentation will take place in Room 216 of the SOBE.
In other news, FMU’s Debate Club is looking to recruit members to relaunch its chapter. Assistant professor of mass communication Jenifer Butler said the university’s Podcast Club is also working alongside her to help promote the effort and attract applicants.
